Best Damn Short Stories

The purpose of Best Damn Short Stories is to recognize the literary merit of new and emerging authors of short fiction. Twice a year, Superchamp Books publishes Best Damn Short Stories, an anthology of short stories that features the works of at least 10 new and emerging authors. With each edition, we promise to bring readers the most engaging, interesting, and entertaining short stories that we can find.

Submission Guidelines:

Submissions accepted on a revolving basis. However, to be considered for the Winter Edition of Best Damn Short Stories, submissions must be received by December 30th. To be considered for the Summer Edition, submissions must be received by May 15th. All short stories submitted must be original and previously unpublished works. The length (word count) of the short story is up to you; however, the minimum is 1,500 words and the maximum is 7,500 words. (Please keep in mind that the slots for short stories with the larger word counts are limited; for example, there are only three publication slots available at the maximum word count.)

There is no entry or reading fee. At the moment, submissions are limited to one per author. We try to read every submission in a timely manner, but due to the number of submissions sent and the size of our staff, we can not guarantee that your submission will be read in time for the Best Damn Short Stories edition that you are submitting for, but when read, it will be considered for future editions.

Each selected author will receive a one-time payment of $50, plus a copy of the printed
edition of Best Damn Short Stories that their short story is published in. In addition, one author will be selected for our yearly Best Damn Short Story Award for New and Emerging Authors. 1st place cash award: $500; 2nd place finalist will receive $300; and 3rd place finalist will receive $150.
